As one who has lived in the Arab world, I can tell you there is no basis for assuming that Muslims are bent on world domination, except for the few "nice, hard-working ones." Muslims, in general, would like control of their own countries, whose authoritarian governments they generally dislike strongly. (Therefore, connecting Wahhabi rule in Saudi Arabia to the populace is misleading at best.) But Spencer and others take extreme interpretations.

I have met Robert Spencer and have heard him speak. He should not be one's only source on Islam. He is considered a marginal figure, for the very important reason that his interpretations of Islam are not held by most Muslims; what's the point in attributing a version of religion to a people that they don't even believe? I know he would disagree with me on that, but I can tell you from experience that Muslims are people just like you and I and the last thing most Muslims would think of is the ridiculous idea of taking over the United States. Even the terrorists who commit unthinkable atrocities against American citizens and on American soil are mostly concerned with evicting U.S. forces from the Middle East and decreasing U.S. power in the region, not taking power here.Dougnoreply@blogger.com
