B...That's not what I chose to do, though, lol. But the point as you said is to sacrifice, for penance, all that. So giving up things we indulge in that is just wasteful WOULD be appropriate, would it not? I mean, really. I bet Jesus didn't have an AC in the desert or a mini spritzing fan. Amish people do without all that crap, too, although not I'm not sure their driving factor is to be eco-friendly but just more humble means, etc. So that's the problem, then, perhaps. Okay I'll give you that. If it's taking the focus away from the real point of Lent, by making it about being eco-friendly, that's a problem.

But I'm still sticking by the point that it seems like a good idea of something to give up for Lent. I don't see how it is any more lame than giving up desserts or whatever. It IS something to sacrifice, and beneficial all around (even more than "no chocolate".). And if I turned my thing down 2 degrees, it would be a sacrifice because I HATE being cold lol!! It's being less wasteful of money, too. Just learning to be more accepting and not so lolligagging in luxury of 20 minutes showers and house heated to 76 degrees. Really, you have to see that that would be a good sacrifice in of itself.

BUT to piggyback on the true focus of Lent for a different focus, to drink the political Kool-aid of climate change just because it's all the rage right now...that's obnoxious. So I'll give you that, okay? ;P The principal might be wrong, but at the end of the day, I think it's actually a nifty idea of sacrifice lol -- again not any more lame than "no TV!" or "No chocolate!"

- LAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1336117984422102655.post-86560073623531608562010-03-15T21:58:56.720-04:002010-03-15T21:58:56.720-04:00L - You be sure and lower your thermostat 2 degree...L - You be sure and lower your thermostat 2 degrees. For example, if for Lent, I wanted my "sacrifice" to have an eco-friendly vibe (which is both doing good, and a sacrifice, as much as some lame 'giving up salt' stuff I have before). That's fine. It makes me not indulge in things I take for granted, blah blah, plus it helps the world that God created and we have dominion over. I really don't see a problem tying in being environmentally-friendly with my choice of sacrifice for Lent. And I know in CCD classes they'd suggest ideas and whatnot, so this could just be a "looking for something good to sacrifice? Here ya go, and it helps our environment too" thing which I don't see as an abomination or equivalent to worshiping Sun gods.

Who is driving it? Refresh my memory (sorry). A politician? Something political? Again if it IS just to score points with a political side, or some crap, then it IS wrong to be USING our practice for that end. But if they think it's just a beneficial suggestion/idea of what to sacrifice, I don't see the harm.

Shouldn't FORCE us though. Ultimately the choice of what to sacrifice during Lent is personal.

- LAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1336117984422102655.post-41812909244968046082010-03-15T11:05:16.217-04:002010-03-15T11:05:16.217-04:00L, really? Well all this "Green Lent" madness is a slick way to incrementally introduce pagan earth worship,Communism and Freemasonry into the minds and hearts of Catholics. This is the spirit of the Anti Christ. In all fairness and respect to Monsignor Rauscher (on this issue)let's see what he says when you call him. Please follow up with a post of his response. I have had 3 things on my heart about St Nicks and St Mary's for the past 3 years. 1)Why must these two Priests be left at these two parishes for so long given both Parishes are not passing the Faith to young Catholics in a way that shows in Mass attendance and real piety of young Catholics for over 30-40 years? They could be moved no? 2) The School Mass at St. Nicks on Thursday Morning is a huge scandal and does spiritual violence to the Children I will explain why in a moment. 3) The moved tabernacles at both Churches and the Freemason laymen doing the readings and other laymen (Also Freemasons? not sure on that still wondering)acting like a Police Officers in the sanctuary and not taking part in the Mass at St Mary's just short of lurking around. To the the first issue I get it priest shortage blah blah blah. To the School mass at St. Nicks the major liturgical abuse is well known. The Children play acting the Gospel the added intersessions during the Eucharistic prayer linking the laymen (children) with the consecration prayer and much more but I will stop there. This is Free masonic Communism. It does violence to the Children by separating them from the parents and giving them a "kids" mass different from Sunday Mass they may attend with mom and dad. This a communist tactic. So when you see " Green Lent" earth worship all Catholic alarms should be going off. This is Freemasonic in part because masonry is a naturalistic religion at the lower levels 100% Satanic at the top. Bottom line this must stop now. Also If a Man Parks right in front of the St Mary's Parish with the Masonic logo on his car for Sunday Mass is he marking his territory like a dog or a gang member? If so must we put up with this smack in the face? I think not! St. Nicks and St. Mary's need prayer and Catholic men need to step up and take the parishes back or they will close (by design) someday in the next go around of parish closures. Immaculate Heart of Mary Pray for us!Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1336117984422102655.post-84148425099034000442010-03-15T06:59:17.457-04:002010-03-15T06:59:17.457-04:00Actually, this comes not from a "modernist&qu...Actually, this comes not from a "modernist" chancery, but from Pope Benedict XVI who has called on Catholcis to go Green for Lent. I mean Lent is a time to sacrifice and all that, so if they're tying in the sacrifice with something that might be potentially good for the world, too, I don't see the harm. I mean, does not putting salt on my food get me into Heaven? Does that make anymore heavenly sense than shorter showers? No but the point is sacrifice, temperance, etc.

Unless, again, it's just that they seem to be mixing a political agenda with Lent, that's your problem? I dunno.

-LAnonymousnoreply@blogger.com
