Great Choices

From Fox News we see this ridiculous story. Maybe the Episcopalians will support abortion next, if they don't already. Pray that the people belonging to this pretend church will come to their senses and come home to Holy Mother Church before it is too late.

LOS ANGELES — An openly gay priest and an openly lesbian priest are among six nominees for assistant bishop positions in the Episcopal Church's Diocese of Los Angeles.

The church announced Sunday that Rev. John L. Kirkley of San Francisco and Rev. Canon Mary Douglas Glasspool of Maryland, along with four others, will be up for election in December by lay members and clergy.

The vote will be a test of new church legislation passed at July's general convention in Anaheim that repeals a de facto ban on consecrating openly gay bishops.

In 2003, the election of openly gay bishop Rev. V. Gene Robinson prompted four dioceses and numerous parishes to leave the denomination, which claims 2.1 million members in the U.S.

What would Jesus do? Let us look to the gospel "Judge not that ye be not judged."

Jesus would accept the nominees as his children. God bless them and our brethren the Episcopalians.

Really Proud? What would Jesus do? 1st, the Episcopal Church is not the Church founded by Jesus Christ. 2nd, they won't be real Bishops anyway, so really, who cares?

Perhaps you are not aware of what your Church teaches on homosexuality. Here is an excerpt from the Cathechism of the Catholic Church:

Chastity and homosexuality

2357 Homosexuality refers to relations between men or between women who experience an exclusive or predominant sexual attraction toward persons of the same sex. It has taken a great variety of forms through the centuries and in different cultures. Its psychological genesis remains largely unexplained. Basing itself on Sacred Scripture, which presents homosexual acts as acts of grave depravity, 141 tradition has always declared that "homosexual acts are intrinsically disordered." 142 They are contrary to the natural law. They close the sexual act to the gift of life. They do not proceed from a genuine affective and sexual complementarity. Under no circumstances can they be approved.

You would be just as annoyed at someone who, say, is openly committing (straight) adultery being accepted as a bishop too, right? People make mistakes etc, and God is forgiving. But the problem is that this is a way of 'accepting' a lifestyle that goes against religion...right? (Assuming they are actively acting on their gayness).

Because whether someone chooses or not to have homosexual thoughts can be argued to death till everyone's head explodes...and that's not the issue anyway. It's the acting on it part is where the choice comes in, and also is the thing that little Catholic paragraph above does not approve of.

I don't know what my point is. It just seems that the homosexual act of sin seems to get dwelled upon 10 million more times than all the other sins out there that people commit too all the time, yet are still accepted. Just seems a little skewed.

It is a natural thought, given by God, how is acting on it a sin? I am well aware of what Rome teaches, but this is not what is practiced in many places by the worldwide church. All Christians are sisters and brothers.

L - This is the Episcopal "Church" we're talking about. They could elect monkeys to be their "bishops" and they would have the same authority.

Proud - It sounds to me as if you don't follow the Church's teaching on the matter of homosexuality. Are there any other doctrines of dogmas you have a problem with?

You can get an indication of at lest one of the nominees (Kirkley's) theology here:

Rocking Traddy, I do disagree with a few disciplines from Rome, and will admit that. However, I am always willing to listen to the other side and learn and expand my faith.

Proud -- The trouble with bumper sticker doctrine is it always cuts off before the important part. At the end of the story of the adulterous woman that you are referring to , Jesus says "Go and sin no more." God doesn't plant thoughts in our heads. God grants us free will on the one hand, and on the other shows us how to use that free will to choose to be with him.
