EWTN To Go Hi Def!

Now we can watch boring round table discussions and lackluster interviews while counting the pounds of makeup on Ray Arroyo. Good TV, that!

.- The Catholic broadcaster Eternal Word Television Network has announced that the channel will be available in High Definition (HD) format for all U.S. affiliates beginning on December 8.

“The Faith never looked so good!” an EWTN press release said.

“EWTN is the only Catholic television network available in this format,” EWTN President and CEO Michael P. Warsaw said. “We chose to launch HD in December so we could bring our viewers all the beautiful images of the Christmas season using the most advanced technology.

Warsaw said that the HD launch date of Dec. 8, the Feast of the Immaculate Conception, was chosen to honor the Virgin Mary who has “conveyed so many blessings upon this Network.”

EWTN Global Catholic Network has been in operation for 28 years. It is available in over 150 million households in more than 140 countries and territories. With AM and FM radio networks, a worldwide short-wave radio station, an internet website and a publishing arm, it claims to be the largest religious media network in the world.

Traddy, Please do a column on this subject. Although you and I don't agree on much, my thoughts are that things really started to "go down the toilet" with Madilyn Murray O'Hare, and her being responsible for taking prayer out of public school. I remember those shows on Phil Donohue; (now, I'm giving away my age). These days, we have people and the ACLU fighting to take the word "God" out of the Pledge of Allegiance, "In God We Trust" off of our money, etc. I really think we all need a HUGE dose of God in our lives. Please do a column on this. Also, Father Bechtel, Your thoughts??

Thanks to EWTN, I reverted and now only assist at the TLM (BTW, they do sometimes celebrate solemn high Masses televised). I come from the land of very poor catechesis and thank the Lord for EWTN. I hope you weren't dissing them because they are responsible for many converts and reverts.

I was 'dissing' them because they have piss poor production value, and they have the same show with 5 different names with five different hosts. They could be so much better than they are. For me, the Mass and Father Corapi are the only things worth watching.

And for some reason my diocese refuses to let us see Mother Angelica. They put on some terrible local made junk.

Ugh.

I remember back in High School in the mid to late 80's , our school chaplain really put down MOther Angelica and the kind of Catholicism she espoused. I was really surprised because I really liked this priest (still do) and I had never heard that there were internal fights about what Catholicism 'was supposed to be.' In the end, becasue of his negative comments, I ended up watching Mother Angelica from time to time (in High School, mind you!).

I thank God for the message the EWTn puts out, but I also lament, like you Traddy, that their production values limit their potential audience. Although I love them dearly, I really can't sit still long enough to watch them much even today.
