A Major Victory!

This should give the modernists at the chancery a fit or two! The Pontifical Commission Ecclesia Dei has clarified some important points concerning Pope Benedict's Motu Proprio Summorum Pontificum. Pay close attention to the bold areas of 2 and 3.

Thanks to the New Liturgical Movement

1. If there is no other possibility, because for instance in all churches of a diocese the liturgies of the Sacred Triduum are already being celebrated in the Ordinary Form, the liturgies of the Sacred Triduum may, in the same church in which they are already celebrated in the Ordinary Form, be additionally celebrated in the Extraordinary Form, if the local ordinary allows.

2. A Mass in the usus antiquior may replace a regularly scheduled Mass in the Ordinary Form. The question contextualizes that in many churches Sunday Masses are more or less scheduled continually, leaving free only very incovenient mid afternoon slots, but this is merely context, the question posed being general. The answer leaves the matter to the prudent judgement of the parish priest, and emphasises the right of a stable group to assist at Mass in the Extraordinary Form.

3. A parish priest may schedule a public Mass in the Extraordinary Form on his own accord (i.e. without the request of a group of faithful) for the benefit of the faithful including those unfamiliar with the usus antiquior. The response of the Commission here is identical to no. 2.

4. The calendar, readings or prefaces of the 1970 Missale Romanum may not be substituted for those of the 1962 Missale Romanum in Masses in the Extraordinary Form.

5. While the liturgical readings (Epistle and Gospel) themselves have to be read by
the priest (or deacon/subdeacon) as foreseen by the rubrics, a translation to the vernacular may afterwards be read also by a layman.
Priests! Get out there and exercise your God given right to celebrate the Extraordinary Form on a regular basis! And if any modernist Monsignors give you any guff, you let the Traddy know!

I'm absolutely serious! You guys go get trained, and I can help you with that, then start your Mass and I will be there, plus a bunch of other people. Tradition isn't going away, and while this "Anti-Diocese" as I call it is trying with all its might to resist the storm Papa Benny is blowing, they cant hope to hold out!

The Holy Spirit moves the Church, and eventually the Scranton Diocese. Not the Bambera Spirit. Tradition will win.

Taking modernism versus traditionalism out of the equation ... anyone being disobedient to the Pope and not fulfilling his duties by adding on extra qualifiers CLEARLY not required by His Holiness for the celebration of the Extraordinary form should be ashamed and corrected. I've been labeled a renegade for making such request for the EF, this relayed from another parishioner - can you imagine - a priest talking behind-the-hand about a parishoner that wishes to celebrate the EF within His Holiness's directives?!!!? It makes me sad, but will continue to fast and pray. His will, not any of ours, be done.

Sir Rockin One:

Come on. This is not going to effect the operations of the liberal modernists bishops one ioda. They will simply ignore it. Unless the priests are prepared to take them to Canonical Court, nothing will happen to them. It is one thing to have a right on paper, quite another to have a right in fact. Unless Rome is going to make sure this document is enforced, nothing will change.

That being said, (and I know you will cringe) how about I exercise my God given right NOT to celebrate the Old Rite? I am very happy with the Rite as we celebrate it now. Like Bishop Martino, I believe if the Rite as we have it is celebrated with care and due solemnity, it conveys the same sense of mystery and awe that the Old Rite did. The problem Sir Rockin One is not with the Rite, but "Spirit of Vatican II" priests who try to rewrite Vatican II.

You might have a right to the Old Rite, but that does not mean it is my obligation to provide that right.

As I said Sir Rockin One, if I was your pastor, and you asked for the Old Rite, my response would be "You find the priest, I will give you the Church. BUT, it may NOT be in place of a regular Sunday Mass. It must be celebrated AFTER all the morning Sunday Masses have been celebrated."

We're not talking about you not saying the Mass if you don't want to. We are talking about the priests of this Diocese that are bullied and threatened when they try to get one started.

You won't be bullied if you invite the Neocatechumenal Way into your parish, but watch the excrement fly if you try to schedule the Extraordinary Form. It's not legal, it's not fair, and it won't stand.

And may I also say Father Dave, this insistence by you and other priests to never say the Old Mass is curious. What do you have against it?

Do you deny the fact that the Ancient Rite is the product of God Almighty Who used Saints throughout history to develop it according to His Holy intention?

Sir Rockin One:

As for bullying, be specific. How has the chancery bullied priests over the Old Rite? Where and when?

Seconldy, I have nothing against the Old Rite Sir Rockin One. That is why I am willing to allow it and work with people who like it.

The best way I can explain it is one of taste. It is not something I am into, and therefore have no desire to learn.

I'm not at liberty to give my sources up and cause them more grief to satisfy your curiosity, Father. And I'm sure you've spoken to our mutual Traditional friend to the extent that what I wrote should be no surprise to you.

And let me remind you that you did not answer the 2nd question I put to you. :-)

Sir Rockin One,

Excuse! I didn't even notice the second part of the question!

No. I don't deny it. That is why I am willing to meet the people that want the Mass half way.
