It also would seem that the two were at separate meetings.
The Vatican issued this:
"His Holiness took the opportunity to speak of the requirements of the natural moral law and the Church's consistent teaching on the dignity of human life from conception to natural death which enjoins all Catholics, and especially legislators, jurists and those responsible for the common good of society, to work in cooperation with all men and women of good will in creating a just system of laws capable of protecting human life at all stages of its development."
Pelosi's office issued this:
"It is with great joy that my husband, Paul, and I met with his Holiness, Pope Benedict XVI today," Pelosi said in a statement released hours after the meeting. "In our conversation, I had the opportunity to praise the Church's leadership in fighting poverty, hunger and global warming, as well as the Holy Father's dedication to religious freedom and his upcoming trip and message to Israel. I was proud to show his Holiness a photograph of my family's papal visit in the 1950s, as well as a recent picture of our children and grandchildren."
What we have learned:
Catholicism is more than a photo-op with the Pope.
From American Papist:
"Why Madame Speaker, I noticed your foul stench when you arrived at my audience."

And thus we see how Pelosi re-translates reality in everything she does.

When former Secretary of State Rice went to Europe, the Pope would not even meet with her.
Catholic Democrat (Catholic being more important)
Rice wanted to speak with the Pope about the Bush policy in the Middle East while his Holiness was on vacation at Castlegandolfo. While vacationing, the Pope rarely meets with politicians. Your point?
A "Catholic Democrat", eh?
Did you vote for the Dali Bama?
I supported McCain during the election, because of Obama's pro choice views. I am not a fan of Pelosi either, for the same reason.
Catholic Democrat
Well I am glad to see your conscience is well enough formed to vote anti-death. Now let's see what we can do to change the (D) after your name to an (R)...
